Facebook without suggested posts: a feed of people you chose

You followed your friends, your family and a few groups. Somehow half your feed is now posts from strangers. Friends-first mode gives you the feed you actually signed up for.

Where did my friends go?

Facebook's home feed has gradually filled with content from accounts you never followed: "Suggested for you" posts, recommended reels, and viral videos from Pages you've never heard of. They're picked because they're likely to keep you scrolling — not because they matter to you.

Meanwhile the posts you'd actually want to see — a cousin's new baby, a school group update, a friend's event — get buried.

What Facebook offers

At the time of writing, there are a few ways to push back inside Facebook itself:

  • The Feeds tab. It can filter to Friends, Groups or Pages. It's the closest thing to a friends-only feed, but it's a separate view; the default home feed is unchanged.
  • Hide post / Show less on suggestions. This tunes the algorithm one post at a time.
  • Snooze a Page or person for 30 days, or unfollow them.

These help, but they need constant upkeep, and none of them change what you see when you simply open the app.

What Friends-first mode does

With Friends-first turned on, Reelless works on your main feed:

  • "Suggested for you" posts are hidden. They're folded away as you scroll.
  • Suggested reels are hidden. Reels rows and recommended videos are covered.
  • Posts from friends, groups and followed Pages stay.
  • The Reels player and tab stay blocked, as on our Block Facebook Reels page.

The result is a feed that ends sooner — because it's only made of things you chose. That's a feature.

How to set it up

  1. Install Reelless and choose Facebook (and Facebook Lite if you use it).
  2. Turn on Friends-first in Facebook's settings inside Reelless.
  3. Enable Reelless in Android's Accessibility settings when prompted — the app explains what it's used for first. The same explanation is on our How it works page.
  4. Open Facebook and scroll. Suggested posts should fold away as they appear.

Combine with keyword filters

Some posts from people you follow are still things you'd rather not see — election arguments, spoilers, gossip, gambling promotions. With keyword & topic filters, you choose topics or words, and matching posts are blurred and folded. Matching happens on your phone; your filter list never leaves it.

Why a feed that ends is a good thing

Infinite feeds remove natural stopping points. When the feed is only made of the people and groups you chose, you reach the end of what's new — and that's the moment you put the phone down. If you're curious about why stopping cues matter so much, read Doomscrolling: why short videos are so hard to stop.

Private by design

Reelless never logs in to Facebook, doesn't read your messages, and doesn't send anything from your screen anywhere. It recognizes the structure of suggested posts on your phone and folds them away there. Read the Accessibility Service disclosure for the full picture.

Reelless is not affiliated with Meta or Facebook. "Facebook" is a trademark of its owner and is used only to describe what the app works with.

Questions

Isn’t the Facebook Feeds tab enough?

It helps — the Feeds tab can show only friends or groups. But it’s a separate view you have to open each time, and the default home feed still mixes in suggestions. Friends-first works on the main feed.

Will I miss posts from my groups?

No. Friends-first hides suggested content from accounts you don’t follow. Posts from friends, groups you joined and Pages you follow still show.

Does it hide ads?

No. Reelless doesn’t block or hide ads. Friends-first only hides suggested posts and suggested reels.

Does it work with Facebook Lite?

Yes, Friends-first works in Facebook Lite too.
