Block the TikTok feed — without losing the videos friends send

TikTok is the short-video feed in its purest form. For some people the right answer is deleting it. For others, it’s where friends share things. Reelless gives you an option in between.

The feed is the product

Most apps have a feed bolted onto something else. On TikTok, the feed is the app. The For You page starts playing the moment you open it, and each video is chosen to keep you watching the next.

That's why we're honest about this one: if TikTok is purely a time sink for you, deleting it is free and works. Reelless is for the people for whom it isn't that simple — whose friends send TikToks in group chats, who use it for messages, or who want to watch the occasional video without the hour that follows.

What TikTok offers

TikTok has more built-in wellbeing tools than most apps. At the time of writing:

  • Daily screen time limit — after your limit you're asked for a passcode to keep watching. If you set the passcode yourself, it's a speed bump, not a wall.
  • Screen time breaks — reminders to step away after a period of continuous use.
  • Restricted mode — filters some content, but doesn't change how much you watch.
  • Family Pairing — lets a parent set limits for a teen's account.

These help with how long. They don't change the shape of the app: open it, and the feed starts.

What Reelless blocks on TikTok

  • The For You feed. When it appears, Reelless presses back.
  • The Following video feed, if you choose — it's the same endless format with different sources.
  • Swipe-to-next after a shared video. With One and done, the video someone sent you plays; the next one doesn't.

What keeps working: messages, opening a video a friend sent, and your profile.

A softer option: a daily allowance

If you enjoy TikTok but want a ceiling, a daily short-form allowance may suit you better than a full block. Give yourself 10 or 15 minutes a day. Reelless tracks the time you spend in the feed — not in messages — and closes the player when your allowance is used up. Because the rule was set in advance, there's no in-the-moment negotiation.

Pair it with Strict mode and changing the allowance requires a waiting period or a PIN, which is exactly the friction a 1 a.m. version of you needs.

How to set it up

  1. Install Reelless and choose TikTok.
  2. Pick Block feed or Daily allowance, and decide whether to allow One and done.
  3. Enable Reelless in Android's Accessibility settings when prompted. The app explains the permission first — the same explanation is on How it works.
  4. Open TikTok. The feed should close immediately; messages should open normally.

Private, on-device, no account access

Reelless never asks for your TikTok login and never touches your account. It doesn't read your messages. It recognizes the feed screen on your phone and acts on it there; nothing about your screen is collected or sent. Read the Accessibility Service disclosure for specifics.

Measure what changes

Reelless keeps private stats on your phone: how much time you spend in short-form video per app, how many videos you watched (estimated), and how much time the blocks saved. Watching that number fall over a couple of weeks is surprisingly motivating — our 7-day plan uses it as the backbone.

Reelless is not affiliated with ByteDance or TikTok. "TikTok" is a trademark of its owner and is used only to describe what the app works with.

Questions

Doesn’t blocking the For You feed make TikTok pointless?

For many people, yes — and deleting TikTok may be the simplest answer. Reelless is for people who want to keep messages and videos friends send, without the endless feed.

How is this different from TikTok’s screen time limit?

TikTok’s daily limit asks for a passcode after your time is up, and it’s easy to bypass if you set the passcode yourself. Reelless blocks the feed itself, and Strict mode adds a waiting period before you can change the rules.

Can I watch a TikTok someone sent me?

Yes. With One and done, the video you were sent plays. Swipe for the next and Reelless closes the player.

Does it work for TikTok in a mobile browser?

Yes, short-video pages in supported mobile browsers are handled the same way.
